9 Park Place seminar well-received

20 JUNE 2013

On the 17th June 2013 9 Park Place chambers hosted a seminar on Drug and Alcohol Testing at the Park Plaza hotel, with all proceeds going to Living Room Cardiff, an “all addictions” community based recovery centre.

David Gareth Evans, a member of the 9 Park Place family team, provided a talk on the legal framework behind drug and alcohol testing in family cases; including the impending changes to expert evidence associated with the revised Public Law Outline Pilot.  His talk included a discussion of the important cases of London Borough of Richmond v B, W, B, CB & CB [2010] EWHC 2903 (Fam), concerning hair alcohol testing, and Baker J’s judgment in Bristol City Council v A Mother, A Father, SB, CB [2012] EWHC 2548 (Fam), confirming the present status of hair testing for drug use.

Gareth was followed by Liam Feasey, of the drug and alcohol testing company Lextox, who presented a detailed explanation of the science behind drug and alcohol testing, as well as describing best practice and the appropriate testing for detecting parental substance misuse.

Amongst the feedback we received, delegates noted that the course was “very informative,” that it was “very interesting and enjoyable” and that the “content and delivery of all speeches was excellent.”

On 1st July 2013 Paul Hopkins QC and Owen Thomas will be speaking at a SRA CPD accredited seminar on the PLO pilot and on 31st July Gareth Thomas will be delivering a seminar on share sale agreements.
