Matthew Roberts KC appointed Bencher of Gray’s Inn
9 Park Place is pleased to announce that Matthew Roberts KC has been elected a Master of the Bench (Bencher) of Gray’s Inn.
The appointment recognises Matthew’s outstanding contribution to the legal profession and his distinguished practice.
Benchers are senior members of the Inn who are responsible for its governance and play an important role in supporting legal education and the development of the Bar.
Matthew was called to the Bar in 1994 and was sworn in as Kings Counsel in March 2026. He is a criminal practitioner who specialises in both prosecuting and defending high profile cases, including homicide , drugs conspiracies, sexual offences, fraud, computer and regulatory offences.
Alongside his legal practice, he has been extensively involved in advocacy training on the Wales and Chester circuit and in 2017 became course director of the Wales and Chester Advocacy Course until 2025. He is also qualified as a vulnerable witness facilitator and has provided the compulsory training to all members of the local circuit.
