Highly experienced and sought-after, Winston specialises in public and criminal law with a specific focus on constitutional law, devolved and central Government. He also handles public inquiries and landlord and tenant cases.

A Recorder of the Crown Court and Honorary Recorder of Caernarfon, Winston was the first Counsel General to the National Assembly for Wales and was leader of the Wales and Chester Circuit from 2007 to 2010. He is a fluent Welsh speaker and has undertaken a number of cases in Welsh.

Some of Winston’s most recent cases include successfully representing Cardiff Council in 2011 in Judicial Review proceedings brought by campaigners attempting to overturn the Council's policy to re-organise primary school provision in an area of Cardiff on the grounds that it was unlawful and discriminatory. Winston also acted for the successful applicant for judicial review of a County Council’s decision on the grounds that that the decision maker was biased and acting for a County Council on its petition to the National Assembly for Wales under the Special Assembly Procedure. He also handled the prosecution of Terry Andrews for the murder of Bethan Callaghan.

Winston was educated at Ysgol Syr Huw Owen in Caernarfon and then studied at University College, London.
