Marianne Bennett

Year of call: 2003
Clerk: Lesley Haikney

A member of both the Family Law Bar Association and the Criminal Law Bar Association, Marianne is a busy mixed practitioner with a focus on family and criminal work and a particular interest in the cases where the two meet.

With a sympathetic but firm approach, Marianne undertakes a wide range of children cases, both private and public law and will accept instructions which are privately or publicly funded. She is particularly experienced in fact finding hearings involving allegations of sexual abuse and violence.

Marianne is a CPS grade 3 prosecutor and is on the panel of approved advocates for prosecuting rape cases. She was appointed to the Attorney General’s unified list of prosecuting counsel in 2006 (C panel) and regularly undertakes prosecutions for a number of government agencies. She has been instructed in complex multi-handed trials, both to prosecute and defend.

In September 2011 Marianne was appointed as a Fee Paid Judge of the First Tier Tribunal (Social Entitlement Chamber).

Marianne was educated at Lewis Girls' Comprehensive School before going on to study Law at the University of Bristol. She achieved a Very Competent grade on the Bar Vocational Course at Cardiff University. Marianne was a pupil and then tenant at Temple Chambers in Cardiff before accepting an invitation to join 9 Park Place in 2012.
