Janet is a specialist criminal practitioner with particular experience in defending and prosecuting fraud and sexual offences. She is a CPS grade 4 and on the panel of approved advocates for prosecuting rape cases. She is also on the approved Falkland Island lawyers list.

Janet has a specific interest in offences of fraud, financial crime, violence (including murder), sexual offences and child cruelty. She also handles cases of blackmail, drugs, robbery, public order and arson/endangering life.

A hard working barrister, with excellent communication skills. Janet is noted for her meticulous preparation, thorough approach to cross examination and good jury rapport. She is well skilled in all aspects of defence and prosecution.

Notable Cases include:

R v Pressdee [2007] EWCA Crim 1289.

R v Aird. Prosecuting counsel (attracted national press headlines: plea financially motivated murder).

R v Lockwood and James (4 week child cruelty trial, involving issues re “Aspergers Syndrome”, mutli discipline disclosure, competence).

R v Smith. Successful prosecution of a mutli rapist that attracted media attention.

R v Courtney. A fraud on elderly (described by judge as : “among the most appalling abuse” he’d encountered.)

Janet was educated at Glantaf High School before going on to study at Cardiff University and Inns of Court School of Law. She has tutored on the Bar Advocacy and Advanced Criminal Law courses at Cardiff School of Law.
