Emyr’s practice consists of chancery, commercial, planning, local government and administrative matters.
His work encompasses all areas of chancery and commercial litigation including insolvency, disputes relating to real property, probate, Inheritance Act claims, the administration of estates and landlord and tenant work.
In addition to traditional court based chancery work Emyr’s practice involves all aspects of the control of land. He undertakes planning work for local planning authorities, developers, individuals and interest groups alike. He is regularly instructed to undertake public inquiry work in respect of compulsory purchase orders and, in particular, public rights of way. He represented the petitioner in the first special parliamentary procedure undertaken by the Welsh Assembly in 2008 concerning the Robeston Wathen bypass.
Emyr has a particular interest in town and village greens and sits as an inspector appointed by local authorities in non-statutory inquiries as well as advising and appearing as an advocate in inquiries.
He undertakes judicial review work for and against public authorities and recently represented the applicant in the claim to challenge the decision to close the BarryMagistrates Court.
Recommended by the legal directories for his work in the chancery and public law fields Emyr also handles contractual disputes with a growing interest in construction work.
A fluent Welsh speaker, Emyr is a member of the Wales Commercial Law Association, the Wales Public Law and Human Rights Association and the Walesand Chester Specialist Bar Association. He was previously a parliamentary researcher and a part-time lecturer in political theory at KebleCollege,Oxford.
Emyr studied at Jesus College, Oxford where he obtained a BA (PPE) (First) in 1994 and M Phil (Politics) in 1997.
