New clerking opportunity at 9 Park Place

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our clerking team at 9 Park Place. The role is permanent, for a 40 hour week. The starting salary is in a range between £25,000 and £30,000. For more information please see below.

9 Park Place Chambers has been established for seventy years in central Cardiff and is a dynamic mixed set of civil, criminal and family law specialist barristers. We are regarded as a leading set by Chambers UK and The Legal 500 which nominated us for its Regional Chambers of the Year award in 2017 and 2018.

We are now looking for a new clerk to assist both the Civil (including employment and immigration law) and Criminal Teams, with a view to providing a dedicated clerking resource to chambers and our professional clients who are based across the UK. You will report to a more senior colleague in each team but will cover for each of them in their absence so will have real and regular opportunities for key decision-making.

Attributes And Skills required: The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a mature approach to problem-solving, excellent negotiation and communication skills, effective diary and time-management, accuracy, sound judgment and decision-making, patience and enthusiasm. These skills will have been developed over a number of years in a demanding professional services environment, with direct clerking or legal sector experience preferred.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Diary and Case Management for members of  the civil and criminal teams;
  • Fees work – negotiating, recording fees for work done and billing for the Civil and Criminal Teams;
  • Assisting with all aspects of Practice Management (eg liaising with solicitors to book cases, liaising with court staff to fix cases, recording incoming briefs and correspondence, lodging court documents, dealing with telephone and email enquiries) and other ad hoc assistance to the Senior Clerk as required.
