Ian Murphy handles all personal injury claims and has special expertise in road traffic and sporting accidents, brain and spinal injuries. 

Crime:

He handles serious crime cases including murder, child abuse, drug dealing and major dishonesty.

Achosion Nodedig :

Amongst the notable cases he has handled Ian Murphy appeared for the plaintiff in Vowles v Evans & The Welsh Rugby Union 2003 EWCA CIV 318 CA (duty of care by referee to amateur rugby player). He also appeared in Adams v Rhymney Valley D.C. 2001 HLR 441 (landlord’s duty to tenants for personal injury).

During 2009 Ian appeared in cases such as:

R v Gemma Evans [2009] EWCA Crim. 650. This was a gross negligence manslaughter case in which the Lord Chief Justice dealt with issues such as the existence of a duty being a matter for the judge and the duty of the appellant to mitigate the harm done by a supplier of heroin to her half-sister.

R v Uddin & Others at Newport Crown Court where, over several months, Ian prosecuted a conspiracy to supply heroin involving 19 defendants that was split into 3 trials.

R v Julie Travis a murder trial at Chester Crown Court in which substantial issues concerning the cause of death and intent arose. A mother had struck her son with a golf club when he had taken excessive amounts of alcohol and methadone.

Chambers UK 2008 notes that Ian Murphy "continues to attract clients who seek out his road traffic and sporting accident expertise"

In The Legal 500 (2006 edition) he is described as "a major force" in the field of personal injury.
