Chancery & Commercial:

Richard Kember's practice centres on land law and on probate, inheritance and trusts. It encompasses all aspects of disputes concerning property, including boundary and easement disputes, landlord and tenant (both residential and commercial), contentious probate, co-ownership, trusts and Inheritance Act claims. He has a particular interest in claims for beneficial interests in property where he acts for both claimants and respondents.

In the commercial field Richard has had a thorough grounding in contractual disputes, especially those involving the sale of goods or supply of services.

Employment:

A wide-ranging employment law practice with a particular emphasis on disciplinary and discrimination claims. Richard leads the employment practice group within Chambers and is a member of the National Assembly for Wales Commission's panel for employment work.

Personal Injury & Clinical Negligence:

Richard continues to maintain a busy personal injury practice revolving around cases of employers' liability, occupiers' liability, highways liability and product liability.

Common Law:

More generally the scope of Richard's practice covers areas of traditional common law work such as negligence, nuisance and other torts. 

Regulatory:

Richard handles internal disciplinary proceedings (e.g.in the teaching profession and the police force) as well as Highways Act enforcement proceedings.  

Notable Cases :

Hammond v West Lancashire Health Authority [1998] Lloyd’s Law Reports (Medical) 146 CA (effect of destruction of X ray records upon exercise of discretion under s33 Limitation Act 1980)

Recommendations :

In the 2007 edition of Chambers UK Richard is recommended in personal injury and described as "bright and able", having a "great presence in court".
